Harvard Cabin - Work Weekend Update
Hey there climbers
First off, Thanks to Doug for posting the plea for help on the NEice frontpage. It was super helpful in getting the word out. I should also mention the awesome e-mail blast sent out by the American Alpine Club to the New England Section members. Thank You All!
No bigger Thanks can be giving to all of those who expressed interest in helping out this weekend. There was a great turn-out this morning, but we could always use more help. It was a beautiful, brisk Fall morning and remained clear and calm throughout the day. Tomorrow (Sunday) is looking a little different. Myself or another club representative will be in the Pinkham Parking lot tomorrow morning by 10 AM.
If you are still interested in helping haul but can't make the 10 AM meeting time, the bags of concrete mix can be found on the north end of the Pinkham Parking lot. Look for a white dump truck. Lettering on the side reads "Jones Brick & Stone". (Special Thanks to Gary Jones for the use of the truck.) You'll find 40 pound bags of mix and plenty of contractor/trash bags. Place the bag of mix on the plastic bag to keep dust out of your pack! I recommend sticking a few extra layers in the bottom of your pack to keep the load centered on your back.
Keep in mind, there is plenty of water, mud, and ice on the trail. Conditions aren't very treacherous at this point, but be extra cautious with a heavy pack. Arrive prepared for a day in the backcountry. No one is allowed to get hurt! Be sure you know where you are going. DO NOT TAKE THE HUNTINGTON RAVINE TRAIL. Be sure to follow to the Tuckerman Ravine Trail up to the FIRE ROAD. If you are unsure of the route, ask at the Pinkham Front Desk!
Finally, thanks so much for your interest and participation. Winter is almost here. I can't wait to see everyone this winter!
